What your cleaner really needs you to know !
Any busy person who has ever had a cleaner knows that it's very hard to find one who instantly knows how you want your house cleaned , and even harder to keep one once you've found a good one !
Building a mutual trust with your cleaner may seem like a daunting task but I'm here to tell you exactly how you can find and keep the right cleaner for you .
- Firstly meet them before you agree to Hire them . explain exactly what you expect and how long you want them in your house. In my experience as a professional cleaner they shouldn't be leaving early because they've "done all the work" , if you've paid them for two hours they should be staying for the full two hours .
- They should be able to tell you roughly how much they can do in a specific time . If you want more doing you will need to book them for more hours .
- Be flexible especially during school holidays. If my clients hadn't been flexible with me during the school holidays I would probably have missed most weeks, instead we managed to compromise on days which enabled me not to let people down .
- Tidy up !!! Pick up!!! If your cleaner is having to spend precious time moving your clutter from one place to another or picking stuff up off the floor she is also losing time that she could use for cleaning !
- Wash the dishes !!! I know my clients would rather I cleaned under the bed or wiped down the woodwork rather than spend half an hour washing last nights dinner plates. Utalize your cleaner so you don't have to spring clean !
- Keep kitchen and bathroom surfaces free from clutter so they can be sanitised quickly and proficiently.
- Make your bed ! Don't waste your cleaners time on bed making , you're not in a hotel !
- Agree with your cleaner beforehand whether she will be using her own products or if you will be providing the products yourself . Personally I bring my own products as I know what works !
- Ask for references. Don't skip this step, you need to know they are trustworthy!
- Try to go by word of mouth it's always good to go off a recommendation.
My next post will be a detailed list of what you should expect your cleaner to clean and how much you should expect them to do in two hours . Any questions or stories you'd like to share regarding hiring a cleaner , leave a comment below to start a chat !
