How to tell your cleaner what to clean !!

In our last post we talked about how to find and keep a cleaner, in this post we shall talk a little more about what you should be asking your cleaner do .
  • Firstly bear in mind that your are paying your cleaner and you can choose what you'd like them to do and when you'd like it done . Consider what you'd get the most benefit from not having to do yourself . Consider the amount of time you are paying your cleaner for and be reasonable with your expectations timewise .
  • If you notice something has been missed don't panic ! Your cleaner will be aware that they've not had a chance to get to it and Will hopefully get it done next time . If however it is getting missed each session a gentle reminder is the best way to deal with it .
  • I have compiled a list of tasks I do weekly or rotated for my customers as a guide , you will have your own priorities and every house is different so bear this in mind !

  1. In the kitchen : sanitise all surfaces , cupboard doors, white goods , cooker, eating surfaces , tiles , woodwork, doors and floors , windows , cobwebs.
  2. In the family room : . Hoover , dust , windows , mirrors .
  3.  In the bathrooms sanitise all surfaces, ,shower /bath  , toilet, floors & walls .Windows .
  4. In the bedrooms: Dust , Hoover , windows , woodwork , cobwebs .
  5. In the entryway/porch. Sweep /Hoover . mop . Windows and doors .
  6. In the hall, stairs and landing . Sanitise banisters. Hoover stairs and landing . Cobwebs
This is the minimum I would do in each room . On top of this I have jobs I rotate in each room these include :

  1. Lounge family room . Move furniture and hoover underneath. Clean under the sofa cushions. Move heavy furniture to clean underneath. Clean light fittings .
  2. Kitchen . Clean on top of kitchen cupboards. Clean oven .
  3. Bedroom . Clean underneath beds.
  4. Any windows missed.
  5. Any jobs not completed in the last session.
  6. Brush stairs
  7. Brush round skirting boards .
  8. Sanitise radiators
  9. Any woodwork not done last session.
  10. Any requests from client .
Working in this way enables me to deep clean the whole house in roughly 2 visits, eliminating the need for a "spring clean" . My clients rarely as me to do anything as I have most of it covered , except maybe for visitors or at  christmas time .

Communication really is the key to getting things right , and making sure any equipment they need is on hand and in good working order .
  • Broom
  • Dustpan and brush
  • Bin bags
  • Hoover
  • Mop & bucket
  • Step ladder ( we can't reach unless we can get up there ! )
  • Telescopic brush if you've got very high ceilings !
So there you have it . Do you have anything to add ? Do you have a pet hate that your cleaner always misses ? Are you a cleaner who feels they can't do what is expected of them ? Have your say in the comments below !
